OC Junior Tri_Final logo

The OC Junior triathlon team is open to all kids 7 to 17 years old who want to have fun with friends while learning triathlon skills! We welcome all levels from beginner to Elite. Training is year-round to consistently build and progress your child’s endurance and multisport skills. Our team athletes have had great results at their races and YOU can too! Coached youth specific swim, bike, run, transitions, and multisport workouts are offered 3 days per week.
Our fun, yet challenging coached multisport workouts are focused on progressing your child’s mental and physical fitness, endurance, and performance.  Commitment to consistent weekly practices is essential for building your child’s endurance and fitness.  Our training sessions focus on all facets of youth triathlon such as: technique skills, bike/runs, swim/runs, swim/bikes, functional strength and  visualization skills in order to start the beginner off on the right foot as well as progress the more experienced athlete. Each athlete trains at their own pace and ability specific distance, with the support of coaches, squad mates, family, and friends in order to encourage their progress.  Parents are welcome and encouraged to swim, ride, or run with us, or help on the training courses for safety!

The “core” values of the OC Junior Triathlon Team

  1. The “core” of respectful ethics to your squad members, coaches, parents and officials.
  2. The “core” of the mind which means mindful training, focus, a good work ethic and FUN!
  3. The “core” of the body which means good nutrition, working on balance, form and attention to your own movement.

Head Coach

1001166_591878374179060_453572932_nJake Brindle is a USA Triathlon coach, a L2 Triathlon Australia coach, and a Bronze level swim coach (ASCTA). Jake has been actively coaching all levels (beginner to Pro) of Multi-sport athletes for over 13 years. This has ranged from basic skill development all the way to taking on the World Championships in Kona, Hawaii.
I’ve recently returned to the USA after living/working in Australia for 6 years where one part of my rewarding journey consisted of mentoring other coaches in the development of young people.
Young athletes growing tendons, ligaments, and muscle require special attention. My experience takes these factors (as well as mental and emotional development) into consideration when working with youth. This has insured very positive results across the board. I’m well versed in various forms of mental strengthening (visualization, self-belief, and confidence skills), bio-mechanic film analysis, and “Pre-habbing” the body through functional strength training in order to handle the upcoming stress of endurance training. I administer my training as fun, challenging and rewarding!
Another facet of my coaching consisted of forming a squad of young female Juniors in a small coastal Australian town where two of the girls finished in the top ten at Nationals (one getting 3rd!) This was completed over a 3-year process and I felt honored to be a part of this journey.

Testimonials

Thanks all for the support Coach Pam! You promised me you would get me through training injury free and you did!. Six weeks ago, I literally couldn’t run a quarter mile. Trying to do this on my own….well, it may just would not have happened!
Ted

Thank you Pam! I very much enjoy you, your professionalism, patience and knowledge. I have learned so much the last few months and look forward to learn much more! You are awesome. Thanks.
Steven

Pam, thank you so much for your transition tips. Just two suggestions from you have taken over a minute off my total transition time! I've read articles and watched videos on how to improve transition time, but hadn't seen your two key recommendations anywhere. Thank you!
Jane

Thanks Coach Pam for helping my two sons and I make it through our first TRI!! It was an amazing experience and we truly could not have done it without your support, encouragement, and excellent coaching. We are all excited for the next one!!
Jamie

I can't believe that at 49 years of age and not exercising at all, I finished an ocean swim triathlon with my 11 year old daughter. I was truly scared to death! I thank you so much for training us so well in such a short time that we both finished. Now I feel like I can do anything, I feel unstoppable!
Kim and Helena

A year ago today I began a triathlon journey with you. Thanks for the 365 days of support, encouragement and inspiration. With deep appreciation.
Laura

Coach Pam has helped me immensely to gain the swim skills I needed to be a triathlete. She gave me the confidence and training I needed to progress from a 25yd pool swim to completing a 1,000yd ocean swim in my first OW triathlon in less than 6mo. I feel great about this accomplishment at the age of 53!
Barbara

This has been an incredible year for me. I can’t believe the personal growth that came from the coaching of one person----YOU! You have given many of us a new lease on life and for me I found my authentic self thanks to the patience and time you have put into our training.
